Cheerleading Preparation

Toe-Touch

This is the basic cheerleading jump. Your toes should be pointed with arms out in a forward "V" motion. Do NOT hunch your back over. Make your legs come to you.

Herkie

A herkie is done to the side. One leg (either one is fine) is out, with toe pointed, while the other is up with knee pointed out. The arm that corresponds to the straight leg should be hand-on-hip. The other arm should be straight up beside your head.

Hurdler

A hurdler is also done to the side. Either leg is pointed out with toes pointed, but instead of the other leg being up and pointed out, it is pointed down. This jump is typically easier than the herkie because you don't have to pull up your leg, but also can come off as un-clean. Arms should be straight above your leg in candle sticks.

Pike

A pike is one of the hardest jumps in cheerleading. It is done completely to the side. Both legs come straight up, with toes pointed. Arms should be in candle sticks in front of you.
